Severn Suzuki - the girl who silenced the world for 5 minutes
Severn Suzuki is a Canadian environmental activist, speaker, television host and author. She has spoken around the world about environmental issues. Severn Suzuki founded the Environmental Children’s Organization (ECO), a group of children dedicated to learn and teach other youngsters about environmental issues.
Along with the other group members, Severn Suzuki attended the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, in 1992. Her speech to the delegates was highly applauded and since then the video has become a viral hit, popularly known as ‘The Girl Who Silenced the World for 5 Minutes.’ Severn Suzuki was honoured at the United Nations Environment Programme’s Global 500 Roll of Honour, in 1993.
