Derek Redmond, who tore his hamstring in the 400 metres semi-final at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, but he continued the race limping and with the help of his father, he managed to complete a full lap of the track, while the crowd gave him a standing ovation.
Derek Redmond held the British record for the 400 metres sprint, won gold medals in the 4×400 metre relay at the World Championships, European Championships and Commonwealth Games.
