Winter the dolphin, is now an inspiration for a 3 year old boy suffering from a life threatning disease
Just because you’re hurt, doesn’t mean you’re broken.
Three-year-old boy, Hunter Davis has Spinal Muscular Atrophy, the number one genetic cause of death for infants. Hunter’s older sister saw a story about Winter the dolphin, the star of ‘Dolphin Tale’ and immediately thought of her brother. She told her parents that Hunter would have to meet Winter because Hunter was like Winter.
When Winter was 3 years old, she was found stranded in Mosquito Lagoon, near Cape Canaveral, Florida, entangled in a crab trap line, which cut off circulation to her tail flukes. After that she was transported to Clearwater Marine Aquarium for treatment of her extensive injuries. But despite of all the efforts, her tail could not be saved. Generally dolphins do not survive after being trapped in monofilament and crab trap lines. But Winter not only survived the odds but she healed completely to adapt herself to a new swimming pattern. Winter is the subject of the book Dolphin Tale, and also of the film on the same name and its sequel Dolphin Tale 2.
Hunter’s family took him to Clearwater Marine Aquarium to meet Winter and they became instant friends.
