Team Hoyt, an incredible story of love, struggle and bonding between a father and his son
A son asked his father, ‘Dad, would you be willing to run a Marathon with me?’
The father despite of his age and heart disease said, ‘Yes’. And they ran that Marathon together.
The son asked again, ‘Dad, can you run another Marathon with me?’
The father said, ‘Yes’. They ran another Marathon together.
One day the son asked his father, ‘Dad, would you please do the Iron Man with me?’ (Iron Man is the toughest triathlon in existence. 4 Km swimming, 180 Km on bike and finally another 42 Km running in one stroke)
Again the father said, ‘YES’.
This is a true ‘love’ story of a Dad (Dick Hoyt) and his Son (Rick Hoyt), who have competed together in various athletic endeavours, including marathons and Iron Man Triathlons. Rick has cerebral palsy and during competition Dick pulls Rick in a special boat as they swim, carries him in a special seat in front of a bicycle, and pushes him in a special wheelchair as they run. Team Hoyt was inducted to the Iron Man Hall of Fame in 2008.
Together we stand, together we fall and together we win and winner takes all.
