An Uttarkhand district entered the list of Limca Book of Records by constructing 8,000 toilets in 20 days
An Uttarkhand district, Udham Singh Nagar could manage to enlist its name in the Limca Book of Records by constructing 8,000 toilets in the district in just 20 days. The initiative was taken up under Swacch Bharat mission, where the district has to achieve a target of 76,016 toilets in the rural areas to be declared open-defecation-free (ODF).
On October 13, 2016, Swajal Pariyojna that carried out the construction work, was awarded the certificate. The toilets were constructed in 351 gram Panchayats of the district from January 25, 2016 to February 15, 2016. So far, 64,613 toilets have been constructed in seven blocks of the district.
It is quite encouraging that our efforts have made it to the Limca Book of Records, said Dr Ashish Srivastava, chief development officer (CDO) of the district.
The areas like Rudrapur, Jaspur, Kashipur and Gadarpur have already been declared ODF. The district administration is hoping that the remaining blocks will also be declared to be open-defecation-free.
