In an age where most people believe in virtual display of protests by ‘liking/commenting’ on posts, SQUATS group on Facebook joined hands to save Girindra Singh Pawar’s life, who was diagnosed to be suffering from kidney failure and was on dialysis and waiting for kidney transplant.

Smita Singh, Girindra’s wife, who is also a member of the SQUATS fitness group for some time texted Ekanki Arora Seth, a group admin, about her husband’s condition. Ekanki on her part went through the entire text and asked her to share all the medical reports.

Smita’s husband was diagnosed with high blood pressure in November 2016 and was advised medicines by the doctors. However, his lack of diligence led him to skip medical prescriptions, thereby putting excessive pressure on his kidneys. This led to dialysis and at the end the only option left was kidney transplant.

SQUATS is an online health and wellness platform which has doctors, nutritionists, trainers and instructors as advisers on its panel. In no time doctors within SQUATS were mobilized, who went through the entire case history. SQUATS even sought help of other doctors from Pune to see if the transplant could be avoided by any means.

Total expense was 10 lac of which Smita had managed only about half of it and had lost all hopes. The group promised her all the help and assured her things would turn around for the better. Jitendra Chouksey, the creator of the group, then wasted no time and posted about Girindra’s condition in the group.

We did not want any time lost in third party money transfer or any other legal proceedings and hence gave Smita’s bank details directly. Everyone came together to help Smita and her husband with around 3 lakh funds, said Jitendra Chouksey.

Girindra successfully underwent the transplant on 9th March at Choithram Hospital and Research Centre, Indore. He is recovering well and responding well to postoperative care.

On our part, we have assured Smita of the best post-surgery care to Girindra in terms of diet, nutrition from the best nutritionist and nephrologists from the group.
