Former England football captain Rio Ferdinand turns Santa for kids, donates £500k worth of gifts and toys to a children’s charity
Christmas is a celebration of humanity and mankind. Exchanging gifts is an age-old Christmas practice and people choose gifts for their loved ones with great thought and affection. But not all are fortunate enough to get even a single gift on this season of love. So, in order to bring a smile on the face of less fortunate kids, former captain of the English national football team Rio Ferdinand has announced recently that he and his restaurant are donating gifts and toys worth $500,000 for kids.
Christmas is a time when families want to get each other presents and there are obviously people that are less fortunate than we are; so we want to try and help them and donate £500,000 worth of toys, said Ferdinand.
Rio Ferdinand announced the donation live on air to Cash for Kids, the official charity of Manchester radio station Key 103. Rio also posted on his official Facebook page that he and restaurant hoped to ‘put a smile on local kids’ faces this Christmas.
We are totally overwhelmed by Rio’s amazing contribution. This is going to help so many young children. We now need everyone to keep supporting the campaign – the more children we can help, the more lives we can brighten up this Christmas, said, charity manager Russell Feingold.
