Special needs student crowned prom queen, with a record number of votes

Katie Shipley, a high school senior was crowned prom queen recently. Everyone must be wondering what’s so special about it!! Well, it’s special because, Katie is a special need student with a developmental disorder.

When this 18-year-old student at Southridge High School in Beaverton, Oregon, expressed a desire to her friends to be part of the prom court, her classmates rallied and campaigned for her to be a part of the prom court with the date of her choice, classmate Mike Parks. Katie Shipley was crowned prom queen after receiving an overwhelming 200 votes, which is a record number in the history of her school. Shipley was born with a rare chromosome disorder.

I had the most votes in school, in the whole world, they made me feel happy. I like being the prom queen. Prom queen is my favorite thing. Said, Katie Shipley.
