They are best friends. They have many things in common; even their names, passion, abilities and disabilities too. Jia Haixa and Jia Wenqi are physically challenged, but the best part is, they have overcome their physical disabilities by becoming each others strengths. And more than anything else, their concern for nature actually makes them special and amazing personalities. Being each others strengths, these physically challenged friends have planted more than 10,000 trees in a village in China.

10 years ago, Jia Haixa and Jia Wenqi embarked their heart-warming friendship, after finding they were unable to secure jobs due to their respective impairments. Today, they have transformed a three-hectare stretch of riverbank into greenery.

I am his hands, he is my eyes. We are good partners, said Jia Haixia.

Jia Haixa was born with cataracts which left him blind in his left eye. But in 2000, due to a work accident, he lost the sight of his right eye too. On the other hand, Jia Wenqi lost both arms in an accident when he was just three-years-old.

In 2011, when they could not secure any job due to their physical disabilities, they leased a large stretch of the river bank from the local government in a bid to plant trees for future generations. Their hard works have let the three hectare stretch of riverbank covered with trees. Now, the site attracts a large number of birds.

Though we did not accomplish much in a dozen years, we recognize our efforts, said Mr Haixia. Adding to this Mr Wenqi said, We stand on our own feet. The fruits of our labor taste sweeter. Even though we are gnawing on steam buns, we find peace in our hearts.

These two wonderful human beings have not only overcome their respective disabilities, but with the help of each other they have transformed a large riverbank area into greenery, securing a healthy environment for the coming generation. The noteworthy point here is – they have no plans to stop their noble cause.
