Paralyzed at 13, this wheel-chaired yoga teacher is now helping others to heal with yoga
It took a devastating car accident, paralysis from the chest down, and dependence on a wheelchair before I truly realized the importance of waking both my mind and my body.
He was only 13, when his whole world turned upside-down in a devastating car accident, killing his father and sister and left him paralyzed from the chest down. He not only transformed his own life, but now, he also helps others to transcend. Meet Matthew Sanford, a renown yoga teacher, who has inspired and enhanced the lives of thousands by sharing the fundamental importance of the mind-body relationship.
Matthew has explored yoga in a completely different way. Matthew has eighteen years of experience as a paralyzed yoga practitioner; which gives him an exceptional perspective on yoga. He shares it with people of all abilities – from the very advanced traditional student to the beginner with disabilities. Matthew Sanford teaches at national yoga conferences, studios and institutions around the country.
Matthew founded Mind Body Solutions in 2012. It is a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming trauma, loss and disability into hope and potential by awakening the connection between mind and body. Matthew Sanford is a public speaker too. His core message of personal and organizational transformation is powerfully practical for the audiences. His book Waking: A Memoir of Trauma and Transcendence was critically acclaimed and won two awards.
I wrote a memoir, not to tell you something about me, but rather to show something about the mind-body relationship.
