A grandfather becomes a graduate at the age of 70, a true inspiration
We graduate, then get married, have children, grandchildren and eventually retire!! But, for Kieu the sequence of these life events got slightly changed and this man achieved his degree at the age of 70.
In 1975, Kieu fled Vietnam during the fall of Saigon along with his wife, Kim, and their three young children. Kieu attended community college in his 30s. From being a mail carrier, a bus driver and small business owner, he had done many jobs. But after retiring at the of 65, Kieu thought to fulfill his long cherished dream to finish college.
He’s never been the kind of guy who could be idle for more than an afternoon. So he decided to pursue his dream to finish college. I would describe dad’s story as one of so many other immigrants who are lucky enough to call this wonderful country home. Work hard; believe in yourself, never give up, and even at the ripe age of 70, you can reach your goal, said Mary Kieu, Kieu’s daughter.
At the age of 70, Kieu is still a very enthusiastic man like youngsters. Inspirational story of Kieu teaches us that we are never too old to spread our wings to accomplish our dreams.
