When the world says, ‘Give up’, Hope whispers, ‘Try it one more time’.

Helping Out People Everywhere (HOPE) is a registered NGO started by a group of young and dynamic people in a small district called Sonitpur in Assam.

The initial idea of ‘HOPE’ began during the massive floods of 2012 in Assam, when many people on Facebook posted about the flood and how they were willing to help the people. All they needed was a medium to serve the needy. So, founders of HOPE started an on-line page,  ‘ASSAM FLOOD RELIEF CAMPAIGN 2012’ on Facebook and with the help of on-line contributions, they were able to provide the 1st flood relief campaign to the people of Khalihamari in Sonitpur district.

People started trusting the page and a 2nd flood relief campaign was initiated within a month at Dhemaji district. These relief campaigns were carried out by Jyotish Kr Baishya, Nilotpal Kakoti and Rajib Sarma. Later, the group renamed the on-line page as HOPE. And that was the beginning of HOPE-Helping Out People Everywhere.

The team has been working selflessly in various fields even before it was being registered as an NGO, which includes flood relief, relocating homeless people, surveys and seminars on waste management, educating BPL(Below poverty Line) girl child, conservation of nature in all forms and many more. They have rescued few street children and now HOPE has taken the responsibility of their education and rehabilitation. In a similar way, they helped many such homeless people and later taken the responsibility of their rehabilitation.

The basic aims and objectives of HOPE are as follows:

  • To assist economically backward meritorious students
  • AIDS awareness in rural areas and implementing required protection
  • Activities for health consciousness and hygiene
  • Development of local language and culture
  • Service for wildlife and awareness on ecosystem
  • Helping people in times of disaster such as floods and other calamities
  • Restricting child labour and encouraging child education

HOPE was jointly founded by Mr.Tolan Ballav Deka, Mr.Pronoyjeet Saikia, Jyotish Kr. Baishya and Rajib Sharma. While travelling extensively from Assam to Tamil Nadu, Mr.Tolan Ballav Deka, an engineer by profession, saw several children cleaning and living in railway stations, trains, toilets etc. He felt it was his duty towards society to educate these children so that their next generation wouldn’t face such harsh situations. Another founder Mr. Pronoyjeet Saikia is an animator by profession.

HOPE’s another major event till date is this year’s on-line campaign for the flood victims in Assam. In order to help out the needy, HOPE started on-line ‘Rice bucket challenge’ campaign in Assam. The campaign went viral in Assam and result was that people at a large number came forward to make this campaign a huge success by donating rice and helping out the victims in every possible way.

HOPE is a very young organization with a young and energetic team, who are willing to selflessly help other people. Within a very small span of time, HOPE has taken many social causes and concerns under its banner. When the team is so optimistic, then definitely sky is the limit for an organization like HOPE. Every team member of HOPE believes that if you want the world to change, then you have to be that change.
