Shake your legs to save lives – join the Red Ribbon project

red ribbon hiv aids

It is with your feet that you move, but it is with your heart that you dance. And if you can contribute towards a good cause by dancing with the tune of music, then why not ‘shake a leg’ ?

The Red Ribbon Project is an initiative to spread awareness about HIV-AIDS, organized every December through innovative mediums like Flash Mobs, Drum Circle and Street Plays. Today, with the social stigmas attached and due to lack of open conversations and education about the disease, it is spreading shockingly fast in India. The red ribbon project, a volunteer based movement is working towards removing these social stigmas. It believes in encouraging people to volunteer and support by spreading the awareness by connecting them to various NGO’s and Trusts which are actively working for the cause.

These activities will be taking place in various places across Mumbai with around 500 volunteers who have already stepped forward to create the stir.

Though anyone and everyone can participate, the project specifically aims to reach out to the youths and conduct outdoor activities in addressing the key issues. While creating awareness in the society, the young participants go through a self-discovering journey of understanding the bigger picture of their individual responsibilities towards society, nation and fellow citizens. During their participation they discover the fun of outdoor activities and learn to dance for a greater cause.

A number of schools across the city have come forward to support this cause which include Rajasthan Sammellan Schools, Lokhandwala Foundation School, St. Andrews  College, Mithibai, Bhavans college, to name a few. Watch Foundation and Desire Society are the NGO’s associated with the initiative. Also, Rotract Club of Lokhandwala, Kandivali and Lions Club, Andheri have extended their noteworthy support for the cause.

Several popular role models from different horizons like Television, Bollywood, Fashion, Food etc have graciously extended their support for this initiative. Few people associated with the movement are Simran Kaur Mundi, Sonali Sehgall, Poppy Jabbal, Karan V Grover , Jayati Bhatia, Ada Khan, Manish Raisinghani, Ssumier Pasricha and Saransh Goila.

This movement is undertaken as a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative by Ensemble Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. It is choreographed and organized by Mr. Rohit Chawla, who is actively volunteering for the cause and is working with the infected kids.

One can participate for the Red Ribbon initiative by registering as a volunteer.  Call 8655556600 for details or email your name and number to [email protected].
