Dhaval Khatri re-writes his destiny to become a fabulous painter, even after losing both hands
Losing both the hands at the age of 14, I realized that life would continue to be difficult. But at the same time I was happy that I had received a new lease of life – something that a few lucky ones gain.
At the age of 14, Dhaval Khatri lost both his hands, after a terrible accident. His school asked him to leave, saying ‘you are no use to us. You have no hands so obtaining an education is just a dream for you.’ How discouraging it would have been for a 14 year old boy, we all can better understand!! But, Dhaval knew that life has many beautiful things to offer him. So, he decided to fight back. He enrolled himself in another school and he has successfully completed his graduation.
It was the festival of Uttarayan and so I was flying kites at our relatives place. And somehow while flying the kite I held my hands on an electric wire instead of kite flying thread. I got a huge electric shock and fell down on the road from the terrace and as a result, my heart stopped beating for a few seconds. So basically I was dead in those few seconds, but then fortunately a doctor was passing by and he gave me a hands-only CPR and I was brought back to life. I was later rushed to the nearest hospital; my hands were badly burnt and due to this massive trauma. Doctors said that both of my hands had to be amputated.
Dhaval Khatri not only overcome the most difficult phase of his life, but he tuned himself to be a more capable person. He loves to play cricket and football. He even mastered himself into guitar. Not only this, he is now a successful painter. His mother made him practice to hold a pen or a pencil. Gradually, Dhaval turned to sketching and painting. He dedicated himself towards it for six full months and finally got a grip on it. After his college, he applied to various universities for a course in painting, but every university rejected him. Again, he didn’t give up. Instead, Dhaval started doing paintings without any guidance.
Till date, he has completed over 300 paintings. Dhaval Khatri has also become a part of many television shows. The most beautiful thing is, the guy who was asked to leave from school for losing both the hands, is now getting orders for his paintings from different countries. Dhaval has performed live painting shows all over Gujarat and also in Mumbai. For his success, Dhaval Khatri has only one thing to say – ‘I am an artist not by choice but by chance.’
Dhaval Khatri has created a website where people can place orders for his paintings. So if anybody wishes to buy his paintings then they can visit the below mentioned website – dhavalkhatri.com
