These blind musicians may not be able to see this world, but they will make you feel how beautiful it is through their music
Music has always remained an integral part of human life. Everyone loves music, for some it’s passion and for others it acts as a healing power. Everyone may have different reasons to love music, but it is always fascinating and amazing. Egyptian women’s orchestra is one such extremely beautiful musical group!! But besides music, there is another reason that makes this orchestra uniquely beautiful; every woman in the orchestra is blind.
The Al Nour Wal Amal Orchestra was started with 15 girls. Today, the orchestra is composed of 34 blind girls, with all four sections: strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion. The girls learn to play their musical parts separately without the need to read the notes while performing, and without the very essential dependence on the baton of the conductor.
The women in Cairo’s Egyptian Blind Girls Chamber Orchestra first study the songs in Braille and then the orchestra’s musicians memorize it. The group has already performed on five continents and in 24 countries.
The El Nour Wal Amal (the Light and Hope Association) has been offering free education and vocational training in Egypt to over 300 blind women and girls since 1954, while managing the female orchestra.
